diamond simulants, vintage wooden wardrobe doors

Over 9,000 fake diamonds of different diameters are embedded into the nut wood doors of a 1950's German wardrobe. The diamonds create the image of the Milky Way galaxy as it is projected to be seen from a distant position, looking back towards the Earth. The mundane domestic object is transformed by this cosmic representation, presenting a duality between the internal/domestic and the external/celestial. The title originates from the astronomical book 'Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space' by Carl Sagan, referencing both the insignificance and importance of human life on Earth.
